If I had the ability to study/research any topic in the early childhood field I would choose to research the topic of curriculum and all of the aspects of it.
It would be amazing to one day find the "perfect" curriculum for a preschool setting. Throughout my years of teaching I have used a variety of curriculum's and like pieces from all of them. If I could research the benefits of combining all of the different curriculum's and how they can best help the children. Children in preschool's need their basic needs met first (social emotional) before any other learning can take place. With a curriculum starting its focus with social emotional than progressively moving into the academics I feel this could contribute to the overall benefit for the children.
Christine,
ReplyDeleteBy having positive relationship with each child, structure
the physical and social classroom environments to support the positive interactions. We must first meet the developmental needs of the children we work with on an everyday basis. We have to get to know the child on an emotional and social level before we meet their needs academically. Finding fun ways to teach will only make learning fun and interesting. Giving positive feedback to form healthy engaging social interactions is most important.
I agree that the most important need for children in early childhood programs is social/emotional development. Even if we simply offer them structure and affirmation during their time away from a stressful home life.
ReplyDeleteHi Chrissy,
ReplyDeleteFinding the perfect for your school curriculum is challenging. I also believe that social-emotional development is very important in early childhood. Our center uses the Creative Curriculum, more information at this link http://www.creativecurriculum.net/. This curriculum is play-based. It also takes the children’s interests into account when planning the actual activities. We use this curriculum along with the Illinois Early Learning Standards and Guidelines, more information at these links http://www.isbe.state.il.us/earlychi/pdf/early_learning_standards.pdf http://illinoisearlylearning.org/guidelines/guidelines.pdf, to help in the planning and implementation process.
Hello Chrissy,
ReplyDeleteThe curriculum piece of teaching is the steak of the whole dinner. That is how I look at this. I actually went to school for curriculum and instruction and if you are a person who don't pay attention you can notice the down falls of lack of preparation. I'm sure its challenging to create such a plan and to consider every ability and student. I believe that there can be a perfect curriculum created but it wouldn't just be one. It would have to be a set or series.
Dear Chrissy,
ReplyDeleteI want to research on the same topic but for preschools in poor countries. I completely agree with you because one can think of a standard curriculum that could bring change in our societies.
All the best Chrissy.
