I have enjoyed talking with my contact in Canada, the few times we have been able to connect.
It seems that Canada is very similar to where I live in the United States. They are struggling to teach others the importance of early education and are constantly asking the community for help. She has an equal opportunity for education and training as I do, which she seems to be taking full advantage of. As far as her education goes, she is pursuing her Master's in Early Childhood Education, as well. She also has a diploma in Early Childhood Education and an BA in Child Studies.
Her professional goals are her education and parent engagement. She would love to have her families more involved in her classroom and has already improved on that this school year. I am waiting for her response as to how she has made that change. I have had a lot of parent engagement but could always use more ideas so I can continue to switch my classroom style around.
Chrissy,
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking to myself about what she has done to get more family involvment then read your next sentence. I think every teacher wants to have more ideas to use in their classroom. Hopefully, she gets back to you and you can share that information. She has great professional goals set for herself. I enjoy reading about other teachers and their views and methods. Great post.

Parent Involvement is probably the next new buzz word in education. With the number of school incidents going on in the world, administrators and teaching staff are looking for ways to engage parents. It's great that your contact is giving this aspect of teaching and learning serious thought and professional attention. Schools often don't engage parents because they don't think they can. "A lot of it is perception. Teachers perceive that families don't want to be involved when, in fact, families don't know how to be involved," says Karen Salinas, communications director for the Center on School, Family, and Community Partnerships at Johns Hopkins University.

Hi Chrissy,
ReplyDeleteIt seems that Canada is no no different from America! They have pretty much the same issues inside the classroom that we suffer through even the same degree titles. Great Blog!

I don't know about you but I am really enjoying this experience learning about the educational systems in other places. This week kind of sucked because I havent heard back from my contact. Nevertheless I am still enjoying the experience.
